Concomitant pulmonary artery and aortic embolectomy
We report a case of a young patient presenting concomitant pulmonary artery embolism and an intra-aortic thrombus occluding the left subclavian artery due to a patent foramen ovale. This patient was treated under short circulatory arrest and unilateral cerebral perfusion allowing aortic and pulmonary embolectomy and closure of the small PFO. Follow up was uneventful so this case shows a success...
متن کاملSaddle embolus of the aortic bifurcation treated by embolectomy.
Sudden occlusion of the aorta usually occurs at its bifurcation and is due to lodgement of an embolus. A blood clot sufficiently large to straddle the aorta usually comes from the atrium in a case of mitral stenosis. The importance of this aetiological factor was stressed by Banowitch and Ira (1928). Hermann et al. (1943) discussed the clinical manifestations and treatment of this condition. By...
متن کاملOff-pump pulmonary embolectomy.
Pulmonary embolism is a common clinical condition associated with high mortality. Surgical pulmonary embolectomy (SPE), despite having been in existence for over 100 years, is generally regarded as an option of last resort with high mortality rates. Prompt recognition of predictors of mortality, such as right ventricular stress on echocardiography, helps decision-making for immediate surgical p...
متن کاملSuperior Mesenteric Embolectomy.
This paper reports a successful superior mesenteric embolectomy. The possibility of successful surgical treatment makes its recognition particularly important. In any patient with a known history of cardiovascular disease who presents a sudden severe abdominal pain of obscure origin this diagnosis must be entertained. The pain at first is colicky because of the severe peristalsis which is induc...
